I created this vase by first throwing the basic form on the wheel. Clay was then added and subtracted to create the woman and woody sculpture that is embedded and wrapped around the primary form. Creating the woody-ness of the tree-like form was my favorite part. I enjoy the organic irregularities and imperfections of the most twisted and contorted trees. I find satisfaction in purposefully sculpting these tree-like imperfections. Are they really imperfections at all?
This piece was inspired by a feeling of oneness with all life. Have you ever sat under the shelter of a tree, feeling that in its shelter, it loved you as you loved it? Then you know what I mean.
